Last week some students at Griffin Middle School in Leon County Florida had trouble distinguishing between math and MMA class. That’s because a teacher, Angel Footman, 23, was caught running her own version of Fight Club.
According to WCTV, some sixth-grade students blew the whistle on Footman, telling the school resource deputy that she was allowing “several” fights to go down during class
Footage of the fights was obtained by the school and investigations revealed that Footman allegedly set down rules during the fights such as “30 seconds, no screaming, no yelling…and no phones.” She also included “no pulling hair” as one of her regulations.
It seems that she forgot to mention the most important rule of Fight Club, you do not talk about fight club!
The incidents took place on or around March 22 and witnesses spoke with detectives before a warrant was issued for Footman’s arrest on April 5.
The school has since fired Ms. Footman and according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Footman was charged with four counts of contributing to child delinquency
Footman could face up to five years in prison if convicted of all four counts.
This incident highlights not only the decline in moral values within our educational system but also how little priority is placed on the safety and education of our children. It serves as a reminder for parents with kids attending public schools that they may want to consider homeschooling as an alternative.
The issues faced by our children are not limited to Florida alone. This was emphasized last week during a House Oversight Committee Hearing when Rep. Gary Palmer referred to public schools in Washington D.C. as “Inmate factories.” The recent “Fight Club” incident is confirming that this statement applies not only to schools in Washington D.C. but to all schools in the US.
