Is it just me, or do the most ridiculous news stories always seem to come out of Florida?
Florida is often thought of as a paradise – a place where the sun always shines and the beaches are always beautiful. However, there is another side to Florida that is often less talked about. The state has a long history of strange and often violent crimes, many of which have captured the nation’s attention. For many years I have followed a Reddit Channel called “Florida Man” and have read stories that have become popular internet memes; the reality is that Florida is a state with a high crime rate. Here’s just another example of some of the crazy news that seems to come out of the Sunshine State.
July 21, Ranier Figueroa, 25, was accused of shooting a student and robbing him of $1 at gunpoint on Miami Beach, Florida. Police say they have identified Figueroa as the suspect and that he was arrested that Thursday at a hotel in Miami Springs.

The victim, who has not been named, was sitting on the front steps of a building on 8th Street when Figueroa allegedly walked past them and asked for a dollar. The victim and his friend tried to give the suspect a dollar, but Figueroa pulled out a gun with a laser and demanded everything.
The victim handed over his backpack, but Figueroa wasn’t satisfied. He allegedly shot the victim in his chest and fled the scene. The victim remains in the hospital in stable condition. Figueroa was taken to jail and charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. He remains in jail without bond.
If you’re looking for a place to move or vacation, you might want to think twice about Florida – unless, of course, you’re looking for some crazy news stories to tell your friends.
